Yeshurun et al.’s [3] approach of combining associative memory tests with functional magnetic resonance imaging allowed them to study how odor memories are different at the neuronal level. The identification of brain regions implicated in the formation of first-learned associations between odors and objects opens the door for research that will explicate the role of olfactory processing, emotion, and long-term memory in this intriguing phenomenon.
